Rocket Races 2012

Wingnut built his first rocket and raced it today. He competed in the kindergarten class with one other little boy and won! Here is a video of the race. We will be making this a yearly family event.

Busy, Busy, Busy

It is amazing how fast your life can change. Everything was running smoothly with my son and then wam, bam everything changes. We discover he has some learning challenges that we have to work through and then a medical issue pops up: a cyst between his big toe and second toe. I feel like I [...]

Rock Candy

A little while ago, we tried to make rock candy but instead of it sticking to the stick, it just formed a layer on top of the sugar syrup. That mess-up made me want to try again using a different recipe. This time, I used the 10:1 ratio. If I was to do this again, [...]

Igneous Rocks

For our Outdoor Hour Challenge we learned about Igneous Rocks. I found this book at the library and it gave a nice and short introduction to this kind of rock: perfect for my sons age. Even though this challenge did not get us out side, no igneous rocks close by, I did happen to have [...]

Colored Flowers

Last week our science experiment was all about how water flows through the stem and to the petals. This is done through the process called transpiration. First, we went on a walk and found some daisies. Then wingnut picked two colors for our test: red and blue. After a week, this was the results of [...]

We Are Back

It has been awhile since we participated in the Outdoor Hour Challenge; we took an early summer break. Now that school is back in session, I thought for our first challenge we would take it easy and do the ‘Beat the Heat’ Grid that was provided in the newsletter. Wingnut was unsure of what we [...]

I Love Homeschooling

This morning after waking up the first question wingnut asked me was, “Whats in bones?” So I grabbed my trusty tablet, did a Google image search for bone anatomy and had our first lesson of the day. All while laying down in bed, you can’t do that in public school! Wingnut still has a big [...]

Lego Love

We recently bought the first kit to the lego MBA and wingnut is loving it. This is his own creation.

Books Read to Wingnut Today

April’s Kittens by Clare Turlay Newberry My rating: 4 of 5 stars I thought this book was really sweet. What surprised me was that wingnut sat through the whole book. You see, it was not only a long book but the pictures were not very captivating. Arrow to the Sun: A Pueblo Indian Tale by [...]
