Rock Candy

A little while ago, we tried to make rock candy but instead of it sticking to the stick, it just formed a layer on top of the sugar syrup. That mess-up made me want to try again using a different recipe. This time, I used the 10:1 ratio. If I was to do this again, I would try only 8 to 9 cups sugar per 1 cup of water because this batch had too much sugar. When we observed it in the morning there was a pile of sugar on the bottom of the jar. Even though the pile was there it still formed nicely!

Woo! I’ve always loved rock candy. I remember making it long, long ago for a science project. I used blue food coloring, and it took about a week– not nearly fast enough for my sugar tooth! :P
