Doves

One of the four challenges. for the Handbook of Nature Study. was to observe a bird. We chose doves since we now have some in our area.
The doves here are pretty much all grey with a bit of white. I have yet been able to see them close up to look for markings. I really need to get a pair of binoculars.

We both took time to draw in our nature journals. Wingnut was so upset that his bird did not look like the picture. Poor thing he is such a perfectionist sometimes.

I got a book at the library on birds and showed him the picture of the dove in it. He LOVES this book so much that I went and bought it. He will constantly open it up to the dove and ask to look for the ones outside. I am pretty sure more bird watching is in the future.

bird watching is so much fun! my oldest (11) is super interested in birds.

my 3 yr old hear a mourning dove the other day and INSISTED it was an owl. i mean INSISTED. argued with me for literally hours – telling me she saw it in the tree… so funny. i just had to laugh. one day, that fierce and confident independence will be a welcome trait…

I wonder if BB would have any interest in something like that… It’s so cool how you are able to take these lessons to another level with the journals, the art, and the additional research. Cooler still to find that Wingnut has so much interest!

I love doves. They’re so sweet and kind of dumb. We have a lot of them.
