Chore Chart

With wingnuts increasing interest in money and buying things we have incorporated a chore chart.  The top row is the chores he needs to do each day no matter what. The second row is the optional chores that he can get paid for at the end of the week if he completes all of the chores in the first row. If he does not do the chores in the first row but does the chores in the second row he will not get paid.

When he completes any chore he then puts the card in the jar.

The chores he does everyday are; pick up his toys, feed luna and brush his teeth. The optional, paid chores are; pick up trash outside (we don’t have a fence in the front yard so trash is always blowing into it.), walk luna and do a load of laundry (I still help him a bit with this one.).

Right now, I am still making him do the chores on the first row. I will continue to do this till he is in a habit and understands that he will not get paid for the other chores unless he does the mandatory ones.

We also took what he had already saved up and started a bank account for him.

I downloaded the cards from here.

cool! i love responsibility charts. we use them here too! i think it really helps the kids understand what is expected of them. no guess-work. it’s all laid out in front of them.

I need something like that for me! Chores that must be done – laundry, dishes, mow. Then, the rewarding ones – sewing, sketching, playing. So easy to get distracted!

What a great idea. I like the balance between required and paid chores. :)

Wow… already? Y’all are on top of it! BB is just starting to say “I want that” when we go out and about. It’s probably a great time to start a chore routine.

  5. I think I am with Anne. I need something like that for me! I too am so easily distracted by other (more fun) things. The system you have created looks nice. Like the cards. All we had growing up was a list of paper with two sets of chores and my brother and I alternated each week. Emily
