Other Ways To Use Number Rods

My son likes to move and I find after staying still for awhile he needs to do something active so he can focus again. Because of that, I have had to think of different ways to use his materials.

Her are two other ways to use the number rods.

1. Line them up like in the picture and call out a number. The child then runs to the correct number rod.

2. Have the child sit in a different room with the rods and call out a number. The child then brings the number rod to you. If it is not correct he then takes it back and brings the correct one.

Wingnuts favorite was number two, we did this for about 20 min. which is a long time for my son :)

I hope this helps someone else.

I love how attentive to Wingnut’s learning styles you are! It sounds like you’ve got some great approaches for his kinesthetic leanings.

I love the movement activities you do with Wingnut! When you do letters I have one for you. When I taught first grade I used a cheap-o shower curtain and made a qwerty keyboard on it with permanent marker. Then he can stand on each “key” when you call out letters or letter sounds or whatever. We also used fly swatters to hit the keys. =]
