Menu Plan Monday – Sep. 21st

After reviewing our spending habits lately I realized we were spending way too much money on food. Mainly because we get too lazy and do not want to cook. I decided one way I could help my family was by cutting our food bill in half. If I tell you how much money we were spending on food I think you would have a heart attack! Are you ready? We were spending 800 dollars a month on food and non food items like soap. So my goal for this month is 400 dollars which is still a pretty substantial amount for three people. Once we get to where we comfortably can do 400, I will try to reduce it to 300 but that will most likely be as low as I will go.

So to help accomplish this I will start writing a menu plan on Mondays to help stop the “I don’t know what to cook” days. Also, I just got done freezing a months worth of dinners from Once a Month Mom. And last but not least, I started to clip coupons. Let me tell you that is not fun but definitely worth it.

The month of dinners and a few breakfastes came to 180.00. That equals 3.21 a meal. Woot! That leaves me with 220.00 for the rest of the month for side dishes, lunches and non food items. I think I may be able to do this!

Here is my meal plan for the week: ( Take a look at other menus at orgjunkie.com!)

What a great menu — those apple muffins are ones I’m going to check out.

I’ve found that meal planning has reduced our monthly food budget substantially, and that has been a huge blessing! Best to you on your quest.

  2. I hope you enjoy the white chicken chili, it’s one of my family’s favorites!!

Looks like a fabulous menu! I really need to start menu planning again. I stopped a few months ago, and the budget is really feeling it. Having a plan makes a big difference in what I spend at the grocery store.

And you’ll have to let me know how the Chicken and Chilies Casserole turns out… that sounds pretty tasty!

I was in this exact position 2 weeks ago — spending 800$ a month on food easily. I’m taking it in baby steps though, getting it down to 150$ a week, and then try to pare down again. I’d love to get my shopping bill to 400$ as well.

    Good luck!

Best of luck to you! I have found that meal planning not only saves me money, but it also saves me stress and time and quality of life. I actually think we eat better, too. You are starting out great- doing your breakfasts as well- I’m still only doing dinners and occasionally planning breakfasts. Keep up the good work!

I can’t wait to try the Corn Dog Muffins! Sounds Yummy! It’s my first week too.
