The Catcher in the Rye

So I just got done reading “The Catcher in the Rye”. And I got to say I was not all that impressed for all the hype this book gets. My husband read it first and said it got him a thinking after he read it. I don’t know…I was really bored with it. So much so I read the ending to see if I should keep reading, I never do that. I almost stopped when I read the ending but kept going because my husband said it was good. Now some books that did get me thinking are one’s like “Brave new world” and “Fahrenheit 451″. Those were good books. Anyways, I am glad I read it, if at least to say, “yes I read that book.”

I think that this book gets a lot of street cred because it was ground-breaking. It was really the first TRUE coming of age novel written by a contemporary American novelist, swear words and all. Which of course earned it a spot on the “banned books” list, only making it that much more desirable. Is there any Vonnegut on your list to read?

Not at the moment. What do you recommend?

I vaguely remember reading this one in high school (on my own, not for a class) and not being terribly enthralled nor impressed. I’ve considered giving it another shot, but haven’t managed it yet. So many books, so little time!

They are all pretty solid…Slaughterhouse Five is probably his most famous work. Beware…his books are weird. :) Weird but solid.
