I am afraid that my site is shifting to be more about my baby then knitting. I apologize to those who came here for the knitting content. When things get more organized around here knitting will come back I promise.

wingNut

wingNut – 3 days old – This was his grumpy look that he had for the first couple weeks.

In the mean time if you would like to read my Birth Story click the link below.

My due date was May second but that was not the day wingNut would come. Shortly after that I had a doc appointment. I was dilated 2 to 3 and they scraped my membranes. They were pretty sure he was going to come any minute, but he did not. Then next week at my doc appointment they scraped my membranes again and I was dilated 3 to 4. This time they scheduled me an appointment to be induced the following Wednesday. On that day the hospital was full so they bumped me to Thursday. On Thursday they were full but they told me to come it to monitor wingNut to make sure everything was still ok. He was doing superb and we had an ultra sound to make sure he was fine. We got to see him holding his toe it was so cute. The hospital was still full so they rescheduled me to that Saturday. That day was May 17 yes two weeks after my due date. I said forget this I will induce myself. My first thought was Castor Oil. Yes I said Caster oil. So I took 2 oz. with 2 oz. orange juice. It cleared me out. An hour later I took 1 oz. with 1 oz. of orange juice and that is when it all started happening. I started to have contractions that were 3 minutes apart. It would start in my back and work its way forward. They were not so bad that I could not handle them so we weren’t too worried. I just kept pacing in the living room. Then all of a sudden I had a gush of water and I realized my water had broken. I was leaking. I told my husband and he was like are you sure? I said yes and that we needed to go that second. So we headed to the hospital. When we got there it was after hours so we had to go through the emergency room where I had to wait forever for them to wheel chair me to the labor and delivery area. Once there they hooked me up to the monitor and checked me I was dilated 5. So they moved me to my room where I instantly started to have severe back labor. For those who never had that, be happy, it hurts really bad. My goal was to not take pain meds but when the back labor started I asked for meds. The nurse called my midwife and told her, but the midwife said to move me to the tub instead. So we went into the tub which helped a lot. After a bit in the tub wingNut turned the right way and I no longer had back labor. It was still painful with every contraction but defiantly not as bad as the back labor. Not to long after that I felt like I needed to push, so we started to push. Most of my labor was pushing him out. I went through several positions trying to get him out faster toilet, squatting, and on my side on the bed. At first I was screaming with a high pitch noise but my midwife told me to do deeper sounds. If I did, I would not get as tense so I kept doing this grunting noise with every contraction. Pushing was weird to me. It did not feel how I expected it to feel. Once I figured out that when I push it should feel like I am trying to push poop out it started to go a little faster. When I was at my final pushing position on the bed my husband had to help me with one of my legs and my sister with the other so that I could curl up enough to push him out. I kept grabbing my toes and pulling them up to my chest which is where I think I caused my nerve damage in my legs. I don’t think I could have normally put myself in that position. Finally the midwife asked if she could cut me and I said whatever she thought was best, so she did and then with the next push he came out. Labor took about 5 hours total from the first contraction. Also, in front of me was a clock and it said 10 min to midnight so I had as a goal to push him out before midnight so he could have the same b-day as my husband. It was a good motivator. When he came out the clock said 2 min. after so I was disappointed but the clock that they went by said it was 11:58 pm. So wingNut and my husband were born on the same day. When he came out they placed him on me but I was too overwhelmed and could not handle it so they took him and cleaned him up. When I was sewn up they checked my uterus and realized it was not contracting like it should and I was loosing a lot of blood so they hooked me up to an IV and gave me a drug to start contractions. They tried 4 times to start the IV after the second time they called the IV specialist to come do it. But the nurse decided she wanted to try one more time, she failed. When the specialist came it went right in. That made me so mad. They should have just called the specialist instead of poking around in my arms. When all that was done I finally got to nurse wingNut. He did wonderful, latched on quickly. After that they were going to help me walk to the bathroom to go potty and that is when we realized that I could not walk. So we spent the next three days in the hospital waiting for my legs to get good enough to release me.

That is my birth story.
